Apparently you can find Church services all day long on Sunday and most places are closed. But the engine room of Intention was open for business all day. Today I isolated and tested all batteries and cleaned years of corrosion from terminals. All batteries require replacing and Jim plans to look into ordering a couple of replacements on Monday. I hope I have persuaded him to keep a separate starter battery. He has been using 6 deep cycle gel cells for house and starter together.
The good news from yesterday is that I found the sea water leak into the bilge and Jim tightened bolts on the engine which seem to keep the oil where it belongs. The water leak was a bit of a shock. The engine is only partly shielded from the cabin but when I removed the ladder and pulled off the remaining two panels, the belt for the water pump was lying in the bilge, the rusted out pulley hanging from a hole rapidly dripping water into the boat. Shut off through hull. Took the day to remove and replace the pump, fortunately Jim had one.
Tomorrow we tackle the rat lines, those cracked and broken wood strips which are needed to climb the rigging to watch for reefs.
I'm here now so will make the best of it. Had a good time last night playing an international game of jeu de boul at the yacht club, A game much like boce. Add friends and beer, makes a nice night.
Thanks everyone for your messages. I tried to answer some but am out of time. Jim wants his computer and it is my only connection.
G'nite
Glad to hear that maybe conditions are coming around, aldeit slowly. Glad you got out for some fun and hope you are staying safe. I talked to Mum last nite and they are still under flu lock-down, but Mum does not have the flu, just pretty bored I imagine due to curtailment of activities and visitors. I have not passed on to her the issues you have found with the boat, as it would cause her to worry for your safety. Such worry would be needless, Right? Love, Dave
